L’Amitie is one of the first boutique French restaurant in Korea and offers classic French cuisine that is prepared with finest ingredients sourced from the country along with traditional French recipes. The restaurant is not as big as other restaurants and you can see the Chef personally attending to each and every guest and takes all orders by himself.
The restaurant is renowned for its special foie gras and other traditional French cuisine that is changed everyday based on the ingredients available on that particular day. Headed by Chef Jang Myoung Sik, a renowned Chef in French Cuisine in Seoul, every dish is prepared with highest standards and using local ingredients. There are only private dining rooms available at the restaurant and hence reservation is mandatory to book your seat at the 20 seat French restaurant.
The restaurant doesn’t boast a cozy atmosphere as it comes with a simple interior as the Chef wants to keep it pretty much simple. Even the plates are plain and simple without any decoration and there is also no candles or flower arrangements in the restaurant as the Chef explains as these form a kind of interruptions while he is cooking on the menu.
Apart from the simple presentation of the restaurant, the Chef takes much care in the presentation of each and every dish as he considers it is the presentation of the dish that makes the customers to become more interested to have it. Cooking is all about timing and presentation, he continues that some of the main dishes in his regular menu are fish, meat along with other French provincial dishes. Even though the restaurant is small with just 20-seats, the food is quite outstanding in a simple but elegant interior.
Chef Jang Myoung-Sik who own the restaurant comes with around 22 years of experience in the field and didn’t have any experience working in France and only with his local training under many chefs can be able to learn the nuances of French cuisine. It is in the Gyeongju Culinary School that he learnt everything about French Cuisine and started to draw towards the highlights and beauty of French dishes. And his experience in international cuisine at a luxury hotel in Seoul is where he was largely able to hone his skills in French cuisine which also gave him confidence to start his own French dining restaurant. He also often refers to the internet to learn more about the French cuisine and refer books related to French culinary.
Chef Jang also recalls how he opened his restaurant and soon could be able to gain a lot of accolades for his traditional French cuisine with his own personal touch to the flavor using seasonal ingredients. He continues even though he hasn’t stayed or worked in France, he often went for some short trips to learn more about the French Cuisine. He also recalls getting an email from Michelin stating about the Michelin star awarded to the restaurant and how he and his other chefs jumped in joy.
