JL Studio was founded by Chef Jimmy Lim in 2017 with a mission to provide his people with authentic dishes that belonged to the region in a modernised way. At JL Studio, Chef Jimmy Lim combines the Taiwanese flavor along with others flavors from South East Asia to portray to the world about the delicacy of the local cuisine and to make it more international.
Located in Taichung, JL Studio also offers the guests with a modern version of the Singaporean cuisine that is made using a contemporary and yet with an authentic touch. The menu is creative and is called as “Mod-Sin” meaning a modified Singaporean cuisine. The dishes are prepared using only the seasonal ingredients from the local farms of Taiwan. Since 90% of the products are sourced only from the locals on a daily basis, it ensures the team from over-stocking and also to guarantee the freshness in the cuisine and providing high-quality cuisine with a local flavor. JL Studio is a restaurant that not only offers exquisite cuisine, but also largely focuses on the dining experience and hence you can witness a wonderful and comfortable environment to dine with a relaxed mind.
The interior resonates the theme to provide a calm and relaxing atmosphere and you hence you can see a lot of natural elements in use including wood, plants and lots of green throughout the dining room. The customer service is excellent at the JL studio as the moment you step into the restaurant you are welcomed by friendly and cordial staff. The restaurant also comes with an open kitchen and so you can see the chef weaving their magic with the ingredients in the kitchen.
Chef Jimmy Lim’s passion for cooking started during his early years and having grown up in Singapore, he spend most of childhood days helping his father in their family owned restaurant which was popular in the surrounding during that time.
Even though he wanted to be a sportsman, a freak accident caused a serious knee injury which cut short his playing career. And during his rehabilitation period where Chef Jimmy slowly started to rekindle his passion for cooking. He enrolled at a culinary school in Singapore to enhance his culinary skills and also participated in various cooking competitions during his school days. His extensive knowledge and unique styling of the cuisine won him a gold medal at the 2006 WACS World Young Chef Challenge held in Singapore. The Singapore Straits Time Newspaper named him in the list of “50 Young People to Watch”.
After completing his culinary school, Chef Jimmy joined the Le Mout restaurant in Taichung and worked for seven years and with sincerity and dedication was promoted to the Chef de Cuisine. To enhance his international culinary knowledge, he travelled around the world to work in some popular restaurants including The French Laundry in Napa Valley, Per Se restaurant in New York, Noma and Geranium in Copenhagen. He then opened his own restaurant JL Studio in 2017.
